This made me giggle for some time as it is so true. Billboard came up with a long line of "One Hit Wonders" (need a clue, try Fat Joe lol). Yep it's those artists that made a big single and then fell off after that.
You may debate the fact that just because an artist does not sell well doesn't mean they're not good, or is it a marketing thing? The days of Mase from Bad Boy for example have gone and his 5 minute come back which flopped(I swear it was in his contract to do 3 albums).
Question is, if an artist is more popular than your normal joe bloggs artist does this make the popular artist any better as they have jumped into the mainsteam?
Ummm I could also ask is it mainsteam vs underground? Therefore when an artist makes it to the mainstream are they selling out?
I look at it this way, if for example a rapper is rapping about hard times and selling and hustling then a couple of years later the rapper has made it into the mainstream and not living the so called hard times, what is he or she going to rap about? Should they upgrade or go by the saying 'If it ain't broke, don't try to fix'?
Yes this is a rant but blame it on the person in my ear hole claiming that Lil Wayne is the best rapper alive (okay yeah whateva and my name is Bill Gates!).
Here is the One Hit Wonders list.
Plus an added bonus for all the Fat Joe fans lol...
