BBC stand by BNP activist interview

The BBC has defended a decision to broadcast an interview in which a BNP activist claimed England footballer Ashley Cole was not "ethnically British".
More than 100 people reportedly complained about the interview with two leading young members of the far-right party on Radio 1's Newsbeat programme.
But the programme's editor defended the piece, broadcast on September 30, saying he had also received messages from listeners who believed it had "exposed the BNP on a range of issues", as well as "a great many texts" that were "broadly supportive" of the extremist party.

During the two-minute item, one of the interviewees, introduced on the programme as "Joey", was asked if he would have a problem with Cole calling himself British.
He responded: "He cannot say he is ethnically British."
He also spoke of Cole "coming to this country", even though the Chelsea player was born in Stepney, east London.
BNP leader Nick Griffin was also interviewed separately on Radio 1, which has a mainly young audience of 11 million a week.
A BBC spokesman said: "Newsbeat interviewed Nick Griffin and two young BNP activists in the light of huge audience response to recent stories about BNP electoral success and what they stand for.

In my opinion, this portrays the impression that the BBC support these views as they are normally very stringent on UN-PC views being aired. Ross & Brand & the Many Clarkson quotes. The BBC say that 11 million people heard this interview (so they say) & got back "positive" feedback? Its seems like it's a party broadcast for the BNP!!!

I agree the BBC, just like the government don't actually know where they stand or what to do when it comes to these controversial issues.

I actually quite like hearing from the BNP though, mainly because they always trip themselves up with stupidness...like the example you give of them saying he came to this country.

The fact is the BNP do not understand there is a difference between being a British citizen and being English. They also have no idea of the difference between heritage and culture...as long as they stay dumb, they stay losing!
